History

It was the dream of the Eastern Regional Conference of the Churches of God for many years to provide living accommodations for people as they aged. Thus, the vision for the founding of the Church of God Home was born. In 1948, the Carlisle Inn was purchased from the Heinze family by the Conference to be the Home for aging adults within the conference churches.

The doors opened in October of 1948 to thirteen residents and a handful of staff.

Since that time the Home has flourished, expanded, added on and worked hard to keep up with the constant growth. Today, the Church of God Home is “home” for 200 residents, provides employment for 175 staff persons and works with 90 volunteers. Now with residents of all faiths and backgrounds, we work together as a family to live the mission statement, “Church of God Home, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, is a Christian ministry committed to caring for the body, mind and spirit of older persons.”

From its earliest beginning to the present, the Church of God Home has been an active participant in the Carlisle community. With so many of our staff residing in the local community and many of our residents coming from local areas, we have maintained contact with local schools, community events and many churches around town.

Today, the Church of God Home thrives because of its ever-present emphasis to be “Committed to Caring.” We know this is a foundation that will carry us into the future.

I love seeing the residents smile. It is amazing to see the transformations people make here. We joke with them, care for them, encourage them to participate in activities, and make them feel welcome. The Church of God Home is not just a place residents have to be, it’s a place they want to be. — Linda Waggoner, Director of Volunteers
